Orientation Tool

The Orientation Tool is designed to guide a fishing tool accurately onto a target object in the wellbore. Information is obtained about the position of the target using a Low Side Indicator and this knowledge is used to pre-configure the Orientation Tool, so that it will accurately direct a fishing tool on to the target.

The Orientation Tool has a weight biased body that keeps the tool oriented on the low side of the well where it runs on a series of rollers. A rotational adjustment mechanism is used to set and maintain the required radial offset at the lower end of the tool, effectively pointing the attached fishing tool in the direction required to engage the target. The Orientation Tool has been used effectively for fishing operations in gas lift mandrels as well as the retrieval of objects lying at awkward orientations within the well.
