Expandable Wirefinder

The Expandable Wirefinder designed to pass through an ID restriction and then expand to locate wire or debris in larger diameter tubing. Conveyed in the collapsed position within a special drop-off running sleeve, the Expandable Wirefinder exits and expands once the sleeve comes to rest on a nipple no-go or other suitable change in diameter within the tubing.

A unique system of lightweight spring-plate petals acts as a feeler to locate and give positive indication of the position of broken wire or debris within the well bore. These petals provide a high expansion ratio, allowing the same tool to cover a range of tubing sizes. Once the wire or debris has been located, the Expandable Wirefinder is picked back up to collapse once again inside the drop-off sleeve, allowing the entire assembly to be recovered to surface.
